I Am Lord
"I am the LORD your God." Leviticus 11:44-45
It only makes sense that the most frequently used name of God is perhaps the most important name of God.
When studying the diverse facets of God's name, there is a tendency to want to find the most obscure name of God. But that's a mistake. When God wants you to know the more obscure name, he will reveal that to you. But don't miss the obvious--God repeats his name the most that he knows you need the most.
God told his people I am the Lord a whomping fifty-three times in the book of Leviticus alone, and hundreds of times beyond Leviticus.
Think of it: on fifty-three separate occasions God imparted the distinct revelation, I am the Lord.
God obviously knew that this particular facet of his name and character was exactly what his people most needed to know. And he obviously doesn't mind repeating himself.
When God says, "I am", he expects your undivided attention. In this case he says, I am the LORD your God.
Specifically, Lord God is Jehovah Elohim, the combination of Lord, the intimate covenant keeper, and God, the supremely exalted God. In a sense, Lord God is two sides of the same coin in perfect balance.
Your God loves you and knows how to reveal himself to you frequently and perfectly.
Loving Father, Lord God, I love your name and I love your continuous revelation of yourself to me. Every time you say, I am, you will have my undivided attention.
