Who Named Him?
Who Named Him?
"You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
You don't have the right to name him. I don't have the right to name him. Not even his stepfather or mother had the right to name him.
His Father sent an angel to give his stepdad strict instructions, You shall call his name Jesus.
The name of God is always, only given by revelation--God's revelation. God is a self-revealing God, and he is the only one who has the right to self disclose his own identity. Any efforts people make to describe God--his character, his essence, his identity, or his name--are projections not revelations. Beware of superimposing on God what you want him to be. Not even Joseph had the right to do such a thing.
But you can be confident of this--God is a self-revealing God and every name he discloses is an accurate revelation that you can count on.
Jesus is the name his Dad gave him. Joseph was told to call him Jesus. Jesus is the name the Son carried throughout his earthly ministry life, and it's the name he will carry forever.
Take Jesus today. He will save you from your sins.
Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. I declare you Jesus. I honor and exalt you Jesus. I receive you Jesus. I take your name now to save me thoroughly from my sin.
