Your War Cry
Your War Cry
“Give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures forever.” 2 Chronicles 20:21
Love is God's name. It's no wonder Love is also your war cry.
When Israel was surrounded by warring enemies marching against them, King Jehoshaphat called for nationwide fasting and prayer. God spoke to them and gave them a weapon, a war cry.
The instructions were specific and somewhat startling. They would need no weapons for the battle. All they needed was a war cry, and a highly unlikely war cry at that!
“Give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
If I was going to lay aside my spear, I would at least want a war cry with a little more teeth in it--a war cry about God's wrath, his justice, or his warring angel armies. I would never have chosen such an anemic war cry, declaring God's steadfast love.
But our battles are God's battles and we don't need to fight with guns or spears. We simply need to take our position and declare God's name, Love. Steadfast love.
God's name is certainly not anemic or impotent. It is mighty--mighty in battle. His name is Love.
Do something right now that is counterintuitive. Declare his name--Love--over your battles.
This is your war cry. “Give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
Declare it over your enemies and declare it often.
Loving Father I declare with my whole heart, give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures forever.
