Abba In the Darkest Night

Abba In the Darkest Night

“And he said, 'Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.'” Mark 14:36

On the darkest night of his life in the pit of despair, Jesus took hold of the name. He called God by the name he knew best--Abba.

Abba! Abba Father! he cried.

Like a man on death row being allowed one final phone call before his execution, Jesus called Abba. He was not denying the reality of his excruciating circumstances, but he was taking hold of a higher reality. He was taking hold of Abba. And Abba met him. Jesus knew that all things are possible to Abba. In this rare case, God did not miraculously intervene to change Jesus' circumstances, but it strengthened Jesus to verbally affirm that God was able. Though God did not choose to change the situation, he did miraculously manifest himself to Jesus--he manifested himself as Abba.

You may not be facing execution, but whatever circumstances seem insurmountable to you right now, God wants to manifest himself to you now as Abba. And when you encounter Abba, you too immediately recognize that all things are possible.

In your darkest night, call Abba.

Abba. I call Abba. Abba Father. I run to you for refuge. To you all things are possible. Manifest your presence to me as you manifest your name. Abba.
