Our Christ-Encountering Shoes
Our Christ-Encountering Shoes
…and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
Ephesians 6:15
The shoes are the third piece of armor the Roman soldier would put on. Once he put on his belt and breastplate, he would then put on the shoes to protect his feet from injury. When you put on the shoes of the Gospel of Christ today, be sure to encounter Christ in the process.
You may or may not consider yourself an evangelist, but Jesus Christ is a great evangelist. He says to everyone of us as His disciples, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Mark 1:17). No exceptions—if you follow Christ, you are becoming a fisher of men, or an evangelist. If you are not becoming an evangelist, you are not following Christ.
The hope you and I have of being effective evangelists for Christ is not found in ourselves, but in Christ. We consciously put Christ on our feet like shoes, because Christ is a great evangelist. “How beautiful on the mountain are the feet of those who bring good news” (Isaiah 52:7, Romans 10:15)
Father God, I thank You that I am in Christ, and since Christ is an evangelist, in Christ I am also an evangelist. Today, I take Christ to do the work of evangelism through me in our dying world.
