Start Small

"Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
" Acts 13:1

Just think of it—the Christ-encountering, history-shaping, nation-reaching, mission-launching upper room of Antioch only had five people at the prayer meeting.

How many times have we lamented how few people come to pray? We think that somehow if we have more people, we will have more power in prayer. When will we learn that answers to prayer are not the result of the size of our prayer meeting, but the size of our God?

A significant argument can be made that the group of five who gathered to pray in Antioch were the most powerful people on earth that day. The impact that was felt through the mission of the apostle Paul in preaching the Gospel to unreached people, missions, and church planting was arguably the most radical, impactful initiative taking place anywhere on earth. And it all started with a small prayer meeting. Five ordinary people gathered for one purpose—to minister to the presence of Christ. That small gathering had a radical impact.

Don’t underestimate the impact of your upper room.

Father God, forgive me for thinking that because my prayer group is small, it is therefore insignificant. We gather for one purpose—to minister to Your presence. Meet us. Empower us. And through us, reach the nations, in Jesus’ Name.
