Lord of the Harvest
Lord of the Harvest
"Pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Matthew 9:38
For a farmer, there is nothing more important than the harvest. The gathering of the crop is what a farmer lives for. All year long the farmer invests everything – all his time, energy, and resources--in yielding a significant harvest.
Your God is the Lord of the harvest. He invests everything--all his time, energy, and resources--in the harvest. He looks after the harvest; in a sense, he never takes his eyes off the harvest.
When Jesus said, Pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest, he gave you permission to use the name when you pray. Lord of the harvest. Use it frequently. Use it passionately. Use it earnestly. It's his name. Call him by his proper name, Lord of the harvest.
Lord of the harvest points you to the ultimate moment in history when Christ will return and harvest the crop. All those who received the seed of the gospel of Christ will be gathered into the family forever. All those who rejected the seed of the gospel of Christ will perish.
Lord of the harvest not only points you to the mission of God, it points you to his heart. His motivation. His obsession. God wants you to know his heart and so he wants you to know his name. Lord of the harvest.
Loving Father, Lord of the harvest, I pray earnestly for you to thrust forth laborers into your harvest field in Jesus' name.
