Bruised Reed
Bruised Reed
"A bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench." Isaiah 42:3-4
Bruised Reed is one of the lesser known and under appreciated aspects of God's name.
A bruised reed refers to the common middle eastern papyrus plant that grew quickly and served a multitude of purposes, including being woven into early paper.
When the papyrus reed was bent, it would normally die for lack of water and nutrients that could no longer travel the length of the stem.
This Jesus prophecy points to the extraordinary ability of this particular Bruised Reed to survive the fatal bruise.
When you feel like a bruised reed, being bent in ways you think you can't possibly survive, remember Jesus, the Bruised Reed.
Jesus, Bruised Reed, you give me hope in my testing. I worship you as the one who not only survives, but conquers every bending.
