Consuming Fire
Consuming Fire
"For the LORD your God is a consuming fire." Deuteronomy 4:24
Certain aspects of God's name challenge our preconceptions. Consuming Fire is one of them.
We normally think of God as being kind, gentle, tame, and somewhat predictable, not a raging inferno!
The day God handed the Ten Commandments to Moses, however, he was anything but tame. God did not manifest himself as a little Boy Scout's camp fire; he was more like a full-fledged runaway forest fire. A 6-alarm fire. A Consuming Fire, ready to consume anything in his path.
This was a life-altering encounter with God for Moses.
Have you ever had an encounter with God that resembles Moses' experience with Consuming Fire?
If this type of encounter was unique to Moses, God's name would not have been identified as Consuming Fire, and this account would not have been recorded for your benefit. God's name is identified as Consuming Fire because this is who God is, and this is how God wants to encounter you today.
Father God, Consuming Fire, I worship you in Jesus' name. Manifest your presence to me, and consume in me all wood, hay, and stubble that hinders your work in me and through me in Jesus' name.
