I Am Your Shield

I Am Your Shield

“Fear not, Abram, I am your shield." Genesis 15:1

Nothing conquers your fears faster and more thoroughly than the name of God.

When Abram arrived in the promised land, he faced fears in every shape and size. Fear of starvation. Fear of death. Fear of failure. Fear of abandonment. Fear of the unknown.

Notice when God exposes Abram's fears, he gives his servant something more powerful than his fears--he gives Abram his name. And it's a most appropriate name. Shield.

Shield is a vivid description of God's protection. But notice, God didn't simply promise protection to Abram; God gave him his name.

God's name is his presence, and Shield promised to Abram God's protective presence. Powerful.

God's name doesn't change. God is also your Shield.

Take Christ as your Shield now.

Jesus, you are my Shield, my Defender, my Protector. I speak to my fears, be gone from me now and go to the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ now and forever.
