"The LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life." Genesis 2:7
The name Lord God, or Yahweh Elohim, is not a meaningless redundancy. Far from it. And it's certainly not God's first and last names.
Whenever God identifies himself by name, he is intentional. Precise. Exacting.
This pairing of his favorite names, leads with Yahweh emphasizing himself as life-giving, covenant-keeper. He follows it with Elohim, his lofty, majestic, transcendence.
God could not have chosen a better moment to identify himself as Lord God than now--as he creates Adam in his own image. God is the lofty Creator who gives life to Adam, and wants to have an intimate relationship with him.
This is the most frequently used pairings of God's names (more than 1600 times), and for good reason.
God wants you to know that he created you and gives you life, he is infinitely superior to you, but he also longs to have an intimate relationship with you.
Lord God, Yahweh Elohim, I accept your invitation--I step into relationship with you through your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. I hallow your matchless name.
