His Name Is Lord

His Name Is Lord

"The LORD God made the earth and the heavens." Genesis 2:4

The name Lord, or Yahweh or Jehovah in Hebrew, (depending on how you pronounce it) is used 5621 times in the Old Testament alone, and for good reason.

God appropriately loves his name, and he loves to make known his name. While he never reveals himself arbitrarily, he does reveal himself frequently and generously. But never casually.

Don't for a moment think that Elohim and Yahweh are simply synonyms. Far from it. Both facets of God's name are always used strategically and you always want to understand them distinctly.

Yahweh means self-existing one, and life-giving one. Yahweh is God's covenant name. While Elohim emphasizes God's transcendence, Yahweh emphasizes his immanence.
Though Lord, or Yahweh, is the most frequently used name in the Bible, don't you dare treat it casually. Since Yahweh is God's most frequent name, we might conclude it's God's favorite name. And we should honor it.

Yahweh God, Lord God, I hallow your name. I love your name. Give me eyes to see the splendor and a heart to honor the supremacy of your name. I bow my knees and confess with my mouth that Jesus the Christ is Lord.
