From The Pit
“I called on your name, O LORD, from the depths of the pit." Lamentations 3:55
When you're in the pit--even the depths of the pit--when you can't see daylight and feel helpless and hopeless, there is one thing you can grab onto. You can call on the name.
My pastor friend's son took his own life. It was a miserable, dark time in his life. But my friend told me, "I discovered that when your life hits bottom, when you feel like you have nowhere to turn, like you've fallen down a mineshaft and you find yourself all alone in the bottom of a pit, I discovered that God is in the pit. You can meet God in the pit. You can call on God's name in the pit."
If you, my friend, find yourself in the pit, you too can discover that God is in the pit. You too can call on God's name in the pit.
Before God gets you out of the pit, God wants to meet you in the pit. This is why God gives you his name. Even in the pit God's name gives you God's presence.
Father God, I call on your name from the depths of my pit. Meet me here. Meet me now. Meet me in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
