Don’t Mess With The Name
Don’t Mess With The Name
"Some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, 'I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.'” Acts 19:13
You want to use the name, but you don't ever want to misuse or abuse it.
These Jewish exorcists misused the name. Even though they didn't know Jesus, they tried to use his name like a rabbit's foot or good luck charm. The result was quite shocking and even a little humorous!
"The man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded." Acts 19:16
The moral of the story: use the name, but don't mess with the name!
The name of Jesus always leads you to an encounter with him first. After the encounter, you will use the name properly. Until the encounter, you will misuse the name.
The name of Jesus is intended to first lead you to an encounter with him. Then you are ready to use the name.
Lord Jesus, I not only take up your name today. Through your name I encounter you. I receive from you. I exalt you. Teach me to hallow your name and to use it properly.
