I Am

I Am

"Jesus said to them, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am'.” John 8:58

When Jesus identified himself as I Am, it was more than a statement of identity; it was a statement of deity.

Speaking to an elite group of Abrahamic descendants, Jesus chose a name of self-disclosure that would've caused their teeth to rattle. I Am was a name all too familiar to these religious leaders. I Am was the big name. The ultimate name. The name they would dare use only sparingly. The name God used to identify himself to Moses. And yet Jesus now uses it of himself.

These Jewish teachers thought they knew God better than anyone, and yet they are now standing face-to-face with God himself in human flesh. The same God who spoke to Moses from the burning bush and identified himself as I Am, is now claiming the same name speaking to them face-to-face.

This was more than their minds could handle. They went ballistic, and wanted to kill Jesus on the spot. They knew exactly what Jesus was saying. It was completely unimaginable--either he was an idiotic blasphemer, or God forbid, he was actually God.

What do you say? Has Jesus revealed himself to you as I Am?

I invite you now to make your choice--either spit on Jesus as a blasphemer, or worship him as God I Am.

Jesus, great I Am, I take as my God, God the Son, God in human flesh. At your feet I bow and take you as Lord. Savior. I Am.
